Vintage baseball game, Alan up to bat

This past weekend, Alan had the unique opportunity to play the sports he loves for a live ESPN3 broadcast.

Alan Garcia, Ohno’s Creative Instigator, plays for The Bay City Independents. On Aug. 13 and 14, the team competed in the 14th Annual World Tournament of Historic Base Ball at Greenfield Village. The tournament is always a summer highlight. This year, though, the players had the added incentive of knowing ESPN3 would broadcast the championship game.

The Independents won twice on Sat., Aug. 13, once playing The Chelsea Monitors and once against The Columbus Capitals.

On Sun., Aug. 14, an extra inning’s match vs The Rochester Grangers put the Independents in the championship match. The championship game against the Lah-De-Dahs Base Ball Club of Greenfield Village was shown live on ESPN3.

In the end, The Lah-De-Dahs scored 16 and The Bay City Independents scored 10. Alan highlighted some stills from the ESPN3 video of the game, which you can view below.

Despite the loss, we were all still excited to see one of our own competing on national television. The weekend-long tournament featured vintage baseball clubs from around the Midwest.

If you missed the live broadcast, you can catch the full game video on ESPN here. The Henry Ford Museum has information on the tournament here.
