Kathy Roberts joined the team at Ohno in the spring of 2015, after a career that included time at a newspaper, a chamber of commerce, and a home care agency. What she loved about all those jobs was meeting all kinds of people and learning a little bit about a lot of topics. Kathy has a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
I have always liked learning. Ohno feeds that love with its diverse clients. This morning, I was looking up information about the different ways lapidarists can cut diamonds. (A lapidarist is the person who cuts precious gems.) And this afternoon, I was reading internet sites about environmental sustainability in homebuilding.
Once a news junkie, always a news junkie. I read internet news sites many times a day, every single day. On weekends, you’ll often find me at thrift stores, consignment shops and rummage sales. I love a bargain. A few years ago, I watched YouTube videos to learn how to knit and crochet. I am really terrible at both, but I have a stash of yarn and unfinished projects.
I came to Bay City in 1987 for a job as a reporter at The Bay City Times. In 2002, I left newspapers to work as an event planner for the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. And from 2006 until 2015, I marketed Covenant Visiting Nurse Association to physicians.
At this point in my life, it’s all about my family. I’m married with two teenage daughters, so there is always something going on at home.
I can’t remember ever not loving reading, writing and stories. My mom and dad tell me they read stories to me before I could sit up. I remember discovering I could read “Green Eggs and Ham” all by myself. Today, you never know what genre I’ll have downloaded onto my iPad — biography, science fiction, historical fiction, true-life adventure, pop psychology, dystopia, teen fiction. I enjoy it all.
It’s all about teamwork. People here help each other. Together, we are all better than we would be as individuals.
We’ll work hard for you, but we’ll make it look easy.
